A bit about Francis Thurmer
One of the most formative experiences of my early cycling life:
It is 1969 My first bike is a Dawes 3 speed, resplendent with a brass head badge. It is put away for its first winter. By March the chrome rims have turned red with rust.
Only then did my father inform me that what I should have done was put vaseline on the rims!
This single episode has guided the next 48 years of my cycling and cycle mechanicing career; prevention is always better than cure.
The cheapest repair, upgrade, wheel build, maintenance or bike build is the one you do not have to have done again.
